Sailing boats on a rough sea close to the shore

Pen and brown ink and wash in grey over traces of pencil on laid paper, 76 x 106 mm. Within ruled black border. No signature or watermark visible. Annotation in pencil on verso ‘612 vdP’, possibly referring to Gerrit van der Pals (Rotterdam 1742 – Rotterdam 1839). Van der Pals was a pupil of Hendrik Kobell II. Scheen II, p. 154. Middle of top edge pasted onto mount, two small discolourings in the sky area, but otherwise in good condition.
