Forum Argentarium Roterdami / La Lonja de Mercadores de Roterdam

Illuminated optical print depicting the Rotterdam stock market, with a canal and market square in the front. The print is hand coloured in vibrant tints and illuminated via small holes and figures which are punched through the paper. At the back of the print we see that the holes are covered with see-through paper. Some of the holes are coated with green, yellow and red paint. This gives the illusion of coloured lights when the print is held in front of a light source. It looks as if this could be the same print as published by ‘Bassano del Grappa Remondini’, but because of the tape over the sides this reference is no longer visible.
