Beschrijving
The whole engraving consists of two superimposed separate views. On the top is a battle on the banks of the Scheldt, the right is a church; in the shallow water drift some sailing boats and many drowning soldiers. The bottom image is drawn in the form of a map with a view on the Scheldt; here are shown fortifications and many fighting soldiers. On the bottom of the pictures is the legend: 1-18. In 1638 Cardinal Infante Ferdinand, governor of the Spanish Netherlands, fought successfully against the Dutch and French armies. Finally, he was able to expel the invaders from the land. The Dutch built some hills around the Scheldt. In the battle which sparked by an attack of the Spaniards against these buildings, many soldiers were drowned, but the hills were finally able to be occupied by the Spaniards. This collision occurred in the 1638.
