This book is a private publication by Sam van Deventer (1888-1972) who, in an attempt to remain anonymous, published under the name “Hubertus Verlag, Hoenderloo”. The book was printed by Firma Joh. Enschedé en Zonen, in Haarlem. The water colors by Bauer are expressive illustrations in sepia and sober colors. Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke is a poem written by R. M. Rilke in 1899. It tells the story of his ancestor, Christof, who underwent several adventures while serving in the Austrian regiment. B1096

Brown linen hardcover with gold stamped design by Henry van de Velde (1863-1957) on the front cover. The book comes with its original slipcase. Some of the illustrated pages are printed on rough edged paper. This rare book is in very good state, the only remark being an almost unnoticeable split in the glued binding. 28 x 37 cm, 36 pp. With 50 photogravures after watercolors by M.A.J. (Marius) Bauer (1867-1932). This book is number 71 of 200 limited editions. This edition is dedicated to L. Terwen.
