Utrecht, G. van den Brink, 1788, single folded leaf without binding, 4 pp. With a woodcut vignet of the Utrecht city crest on the the first page. There are some watrestains along the fold. This pamphlet states that the people of Utrecht were expected to wear orange, to declare their allegiance to the royal family. They should either wear an orange bow on their hat or an orange ribbon on theit chest (’t zy eene Coquarde of Strik op den Hoed, 't zy een Lint op de Borst’). The penalty for not wearing orange, was a fine of two silver ducates.
This time of conflict between the patriots and the Orange devotees was very chaotic and who had the upper hand changed like the weather. Lit: George Sander, ‘Draagtekens uit de tijd van de prinsgezinde en patriotse twisten’ (In: Mededelingen van de Stichting Jacob Campo Weyerman, jaargang 35 (2012)).
