Geradts and collectors stamp ‘JG’ on flyleaf, handwritten in ink on endpaper:’hoc libris D. Horstmans (…)’ and: ‘Ex libris Mathea Fosses praetoris in Vaesraede. Emit die 10 […] 1718: in publia vinditio […] biblioteca defuncti praetori Heusen de Wijnandtsraede’. Vaesrade and Wijandsrade are villages in Limburg. The book seems to have been part of the library of Wijnandsrade Castle.
(See Dekkers pp. 186-187, item 5 (which includes items 2 and 3). Early edition of this convolute of two major works by Wassenaar on procedural law and notary law. The book ends with a rather extensive dictionary of Dutch judicial headwords. There are familiar words such as: ‘advocaat’, ‘notaris’ and ‘proces’, but also ‘addiceren’, ‘dissolveren’ and ‘venu-en-cour’.
In the middle of the book a loose page is inserted with on the one side some numered annotations and on the other side some names as you would find on a letter: ‘Monsieur (…) Abbe (?) (…) Maestricht’.
