Portrait of Jacques Callot (c. 1592 – 1635), a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine. He is a very important figure in the development of the old master print and made more than 1,400 etchings that chronicled the life of his period, featuring soldiers, clowns, drunkards, Romani, beggars, as well as court life. He also etched many religious and military images, and many prints featured extensive landscapes in their background.
Etching and engraving on wove paper, sheet size 312 x 222 mm., platemark 150 x 105 mm. Anonymous print, published and printed by Jean François Daumont, Paris, 1740-1775 (active period).
In very good condition, small creases in the corners, remains of mounting on the verso, a pinhole in the top left margin corner. The image area clean and fresh.
