Oval portrait of French painter Charles de la Fosse (1636-1716).
Engraving and etching on wove paper, sheet size 261 x 183 mm., platemark 137 x 97 mm. Engraved by Dominique Sornique after Hyacinthe Rigaud. Dominique Sornique (active period 1722-c. 1756) was a French engraver, active in France and Amsterdam.
Jacint Rigau-Ros i Serra (1659-1743), known in French as Hyacinthe Rigaud, was a French baroque painter of Spanish descent, most famous for his portraits of Louis XIV and other members of the French nobility.
In very good condition, some scattered foxing in the margins (not affecting image).
