Circular bust-elgnth portrait of François Henri de Montmorency-Bouteville, Duke of Piney-Luxembourg (1628-1695), nicknamed ‘The Upholsterer of Notre-Dame’. He was a French general and Marshal of France. A comrade and successor of Louis, Grand Condé, he was one of the most accomplished military commanders of the early modern period and is particularly noted for his exploits in the Franco-Dutch War and War of the Grand Alliance.
Engraving and stipple on wove paper, sheet size 313 x 220 mm., platemark 89 x 79 mm. Engraved by Claude-Augustin Duflos, and published c. 1750.
Claude-Augustin Duflos (Paris 1700-1786) was a French engraved and reproductive artist. He was a student of Bernard Picart, and made numerous engravings for publications reproducing famous artworks.
In very good condition, with ample margins. The margin edges a little foxed and faintly soiled.
