Oval bust-length portrait of Jean Daillé (1594-1670), Protestant minister and theologian.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 240 x 165 mm. Engraved by Pierre Lombard after Wallerant Vaillant, and published in Paris in 1670.
Pierre Lombard (1612/13-1681) was a French engraver. Lombart was a French Protestant who worked in London through the Interregnum. Despite being the finest engraver in England in these years, much about his life is still obscure.
Wallerant Vaillan (1623-1677) was a French painter and mezzotint-engraver. He is associated with Rupert in early mezzotint, whom he met in 1655-1656. Vaillant was actinve in Paris 1659-1665; then in Amsterdam until his death.
In very good condition, but cropped within platemark.
