Self-portrait, seen on the back with head turned towards the viewer, of French painter, printmaker and draftsperson Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre (1714-1789) at age 18.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 278 x 207 mm., platemark 243 x 187 mm. Engraved by Johann Gotthard von Müller, after Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre.
In good condition, the margins and lower edge of the image area quite foxed. Image itself clean and a fine impression.
Johann Gotthard Müller, (from 1808 'von Müller', Bernahsuen 1747-1830 Stuttgart) was a German (copper) engraver. He became a renowned graphic artist of the Goethe era, was trained in Paris by J. G. Wille and was appointed head of the newly founded copper engraving institute at the Hohen Carlsschule in Stuttgart in 1776. From 1798 he ran his own printing company.
