Oval bust-length portrait of René Trouin, Sieur du Gué, also known as René Duguay-Trouin (1673-1736), a French naval officer, nobleman, slave trader, and privateer. He had a brilliant privateering and naval career, eventually becoming Lieutenant-General of the Naval Armies of the King in 1728, as well as a Commander in the Order of Saint-Louis.

Vincenzio Vangelisti (c. 1740-1798) was an Italian engraver, born in Florence. He visited Paris when young, and became a pupil of Ignazio Hugford and Johann Georg Wille. He committed suicide, after having defaced his remaining copper plates. Among the engravers who studied under him, were Giuseppe Longhi, and Faustino and Pietro Anderloni.
In excellent condition, a fine impression.
