Bust-length portrait of Jacques Laffitte, looking forward. Jacques Laffitte (1767-1844) was a French banker, governor of the Bank of France (1814-1820) and liberal member of the Chamber of Deputies during the Bourbon Restoration and July Monarchy.

Hendrik Scheffer (The Hague 1798-1862 Paris) was a Dutch painter in the Romantic tradition who lived in France for most of his life. In France he is usually known as Henri Scheffer.
