Bust-length portrait of François Mauguin (1785-1854), a French lawyer and politician. He was a Deputy from 1827 to 1848 and a Representative in 1848 and 1849. He played a leading role in the July Revolution of 1830. At first a passionate liberal, he later became increasingly conservative.
Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 270 x 180 mm., platemark 225 x 150 mm. Engraved by L. Wolff and published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842.
We have not been able to establish who L. Wolff is.
In very good condition, a few faint (crayon?) lines above the portrait. Edges minimally soiled.
