Oval portrait of Ferdinand Ambros Fidler, bust-length, turned to the left and looking forward. The oval rests on a plinth, on which an open book.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 163 x 95 mm., engraved by Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch after a design by Georg David Matthieu, dated 1773.
Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch (Hamburg c. 1720-1802/03) was a German engraver, the son of Christian Fritzsch and brother of Christian Friedrich Fritzsch.
Georg David Matthieu (Berlin 1737-1778 Ludwigslust) was a German engraver and portrait painter in the Rococo style who worked as court painter for the Duke of Mecklenburg.
In good condition, cropped within platemark, a few small spots in the lower edge.
