Bust-length oval portrait of Johann August Ernesti, lookgin forward.
Etching and engraving on laid paper, sheet size 344 x 243 mm., platemark 267 x 197 mm. Engraving by Johann Friedrich Bause after Anton Graff, and published by Bause in Leipzig, dated 1778.
Johann Friedrich Bause (Halle 1738-1814 Weimar) was a German engraver of primarily portraits.
Anton Graff (Winterthur 1736-1813 Dresden) was an eminent Swiss portrait artist.
In good condition, some foxing around the platemark. A stain in the lower margin, a small crease in the right margin.
