Bust-length portrait of Philip Willem van Heusde, turned to the right and looking forward. Philip Willem van Heusde (Rottedam 1778 – 1839 Geneva) was a Dutch philosopher and educator. He was influential in the founding of the Groningen school of theology.
Engraving on wove paper, sheet size 336 x 255 mm., platemark 225 x 167 mm. Engraved by Wilhelm Hesslöhl, and published in Karlsruhe by Kunstverlag Karlsruhe, around 1830.
Wilhelm Hesslöhl (1810-after 1843) was a German engraver, born in Offenburg. Little is known about his life, but he seems to have been active around 1830-1843 (the last encountered mention of him).
In fair condition. A fine impression, but with several horizontal creases in the image area. Creases in the left margin, margin edges discoloured.
