Bust-length portrait of Sir Humphrey Davy (1778-1829), a British chemist and inventor. He invented the Davy lamp and an early form of arc lamp. He is also remembered for isolating several chemical elements for the first time: potassium and sodium in 1807 and calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and boron the 1808, as well as for discovering the elemental nature of chlorine and iodine.
Stipple engraving on wove paper, sheet size 210 x 134 mm. By an anonymous engraver after Henry Howard. Originally, this print was published in London, 1822. This version, (with part of a German caption visible in the lower right corner) was probably published around the same time.
In good condition, cropped within platemark on the right and lower sides, attached to a carrier sheet by two corners.
