Three-quarter length portrait of George Rodney, seated in an armchair, looking to the viewer. He is wearing a uniform. Admiral George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney (1718-1792), was a British naval officer. He is best known for his commands in the American War of Independence, particularly his victory over the French at the Battle of the Saintes in 1782.

John Cochran (active 1825-1854) was an English miniaturist and engraver.
Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (Lille 1636-1699 London) was a French (court) painter and etcher who later moved to London. Most of his works are historical in nature.
In good condition, an annotation in ink ('died 1792') in the top margin. A small and faint dampstain in the top margin.
