Queen Henrietta Maria (1609 – 1669), Queen of Charles I, with three of her nine daughters: Mary (the Princess Royal), Anne and Elizabeth. Anne died aged three from tuberculosis. Elizabeth was kept prisoner in England throughout her childhood during the English Civil War, also contracted the tuberculosis and died aged fourteen. Mary subsequently died in December 1660. The queen holds a lily and stands beside a table on which symbolic objects are placed including a rosary, an open book and a watch.
Engraving on hand laid paper, attached to carrier sheet, sheet size 265 x 213 mm., carrier size 320 x 268 mm. Anonymous engraving, published ca. 1640 and sold by C. Dicey in London.
In good condition, cropped within platemark. Some faint surface soiling in the image area. The publisher's address (between the image and the caption) was cropped out. One of the two copies in the National Galleries of Scotland has received the same treatment, suggesting this print was later sold by another dealer. Nevertheless a fine impression of this rare print.
