Bust-length portrait of Joachim Hopperus, a Frisian lawyer.
Etching on hand laid paper, sheet size 142 x 110 mm., platemark 138 x 108 mm. Made by Pieter Feddes van Harlingen (monogrammed in the plate), after an unknown designer, c. 1611-1623. Letterpress text on the verso suggests this print was published in a book. We have not been able to establish the publication.
Pieter Feddes van Harlingen (Harlingen 1586 – Leeuwarden 1622) was a Dutch printmaker, publisher, cartographer and painter. His paintings are exclusively portraits, but his prints and drawings also feature other subjects.
In very good condition, cropped close to the platemark.
