Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (9 September [O.S. 28 August] 1828 – 20 November [O.S. 7 November] 1910), usually referred to in English as Leo Tolstoy, was a Russian writer. He is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential authors of all time. He received nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature every year from 1902 to 1906 and for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, 1902, and 1909. This publication was translated by Nachmann Syrkin during the lifetime of Tolstoy and is scarce. It starts with letters written by Tolstoy to the farmer V.K. Zavolokin originally written in 1900/1901. Nachman Syrkin (or Nahman Syrkin or Nahum Syrkin; Russian: Íàõìàí Ñûðêèí; 11 February 1868 – 6 September 1924) was a political theorist, founder of Labor Zionism and a prolific writer in the Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian, German and English languages.Text in Gothic german.
