‘Departure for college’. A young boy is embraced by his mother, while in her bedroom. The scattered objects on the floor (cap and sabre) as well as the boy's dress suggest he is going off to military school.

Pierre Duval le Camus (Lisieux 1790 – 1854 Saint-Cloud) was a French painter and lithographer who specialised in portraits and genre scenes. His father was a master glazier and sent him to Paris to learn the trade. However, Pierre found himself attracted to the arts instead was taught by Claude Gautherot. From 1808 he would study with Jacques-Louis David.
In very good condition. Sheet cropped to the image border. A small crease in the top left margin corner. A few small spots in the lower left margin, and a dampstain in the lower right margin corner (this lightly affecting the corner of the image).
