A small dinghy is attached to the sailboat. A tree-lined path on the left side of the canal, two small buildings on the right side of the canal.
Etching with plate tone on wove paper. Sheet size 251 x 330 mm., platemark 205 x 274 mm. Signed in the plate by the artist. Estimated to be made around 1905.
Oskar Paul Matthes (Kaliningrad 1872 – 1956 Bergholz-Rehbrücke) was a German autodidact lithographer, etcher, draughtsman and painter. From 1901 to 1910 he was active in the Netherlands, before moving to Luzern, and later Potsdam. Most of his etchings are landscapes and cityscapes.
In fair condition, the top edge irregular, with small nicks and creases (not affecting image). Right margin edge browned. Some general small creasing in the margins.
