Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 286 x 190 mm., platemark 248 x 156 mm. Made by Lucas I Vorsterman, after the self-portrait by Anthony van Dyck, c. 1650-1675.
Lucas I Vorsterman (Zaltbommel 1595/96 – 1674/75 Antwerp) was a Dutch printmaker, draughtsperson, engraver and publisher. Anthony van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 – Blackfriars 1641) was a Dutch painter, draughtsperson, printmaker and collector. He travelled widely in Italy, France and England, and became court painter in England and was elevated to nobility in 1632. Van Dyck also made an engraving of a portrait of Vorsterman.
In excellent condition, nice deep impression with ample margins.
