Centrally, a seated female figure with an open book and a torch, a rooster at her feet. To the right are two seated putti, one with the helmet and caduceus of Hermes. To the left is a globe, and behind that three men with ledger books. Sailing ships loading and unloading in a harbour in the background.
Above the female figure a large empty shield, with four medallions in the top edge, eacht representing a continent.

Johannes Christiaan Bendorp (Dordrecht 1766 – 1849 Dordrecht) was a Dutch printmaker, etcher and draughtsperson whose main work was on title pages and book illustrations. Hendrik de Haas was a publisher active in Dordrecht, 1782-1802. An old annotation suggests this might have been a label for an overseas merchant. We have not been able to verify or correct this.
In fair condition, some small creases in the margins, minimal paper loss in the lower right margin corner. Sheet overall browned and with some soiling in the empty shield area. Nevertheless a rare print.
