Beschrijving
Haarlem, Johannes Marshoorn, 1743, 4to., full leather binding with ribbed spine and goldtooling, red coloured edges, [10]+281+[10] pp., worn binding with faded leather along the edges and the corners, and with the leather and some of the cords broken along the front hinge. The endpapers are somewhat fragile, buth the sewing is still intact and the construction of the bookblock solid. Clear printwork with minimal staining to the pages (mostly limited to the first and last few pages). Complete with half title, frontispiece, titlepage with decorative vignette and 140 plates depicting 840 emblems accompanied by multilingual captions (Dutch, Latin, French and German) on the textpage next to it and a verse in Dutch. The numbering of the emblems on the last few page is a bit jumbled, but all 840 emblems are present.
There are notes in pencil in the front (one presumably by J.W.Six (1872-1936) judging by his Ex libris: ‘Ex bibliotheca J.W. SIx’).
