Beschrijving
Two states of the same etching, of a man resting against a tree, with a farmhouse and barn connected by a fence in the background.
Etching on laid paper, made by Hermanus Fock after his own design, c. 1780-1820. Sheet size 141 x 97 mm. and 118 x 80 mm., platemark 115 x 73 mm. In the earlier state, most of the sky, some of the shadows and the trees in the background are not yet added.
Hermanus Fock (Amsterdam 1766-1822 Amsterdam) was a capable draughtsperson and printmaker. Most of his works are landscapes (some with figures), in the region around Haarlem, Amsterdam, Zandvoort and Velsen. From 1816 to 1821 he was a teacher of drawing in Franeker.
In excellent condition. An interesting set, clearly showing the progress between the proof printing of the earlier state and the finished state of this print.
