Christ, seated on steps in the midst of a crowd, has the Crown of Thorns pressed down on his head by three men while a fourth men with raised fist stands to the side.
Etching/engraving on laid paper by Adriaen Lommelin (Amiens c. 1620-c. 1673 Antwerp), published by Theodor van Merlen (Antwerp 1609-1672), c. 1640-1670. Sheet size 80 x 121 mm., platemark 71 x 100 mm. The print bears number 7, from an unknown series. Adriaen Lommelin was a printmaker and publisher who made a number of portraits, as well as religious scenes (after Rubens and Van Dyck).
In very good condition, faint stains from previous mounting, sheet edges lightly soiled. A good impression of this scarce print.
