The Holy Family on a path through a wooded area.
Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size (carrier) 218 x 170 mm., image size 203 x 155 mm., made by an anonymous engraver after Herman van Swanevelt (1603-1655), and published by Nicolaes Visscher (I) as print 12 of 12 in the series 'Verscheyde aerdige lantschappen', c. 1650. Herman van Swanevelt was born in Woerden, the Netherlands. He went to Italy around 1630 and was profoundly influenced by this trip. He is seen as one the major artists of Italianate landscapes from this period.
