Mountain landscape with a man, resting on the ground beside his donkey, that is refreshing itself with water from the river.
Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size (carrier) 217 x 174, image size 198 x 151 mm., made by an anonymous engraver after Herman van Swanevelt (1603-1655), and published by Nicolaes Visscher (I) as print 9 of 12 in the series 'Verscheyde aerdige lantschappen', c. 1650. Herman van Swanevelt was born in Woerden, the Netherlands. He went to Italy around 1630 and was profoundly influenced by this trip. He is seen as one the major artists of Italianate landscapes from this period.
In good condition, pasted on carrier sheet, cropped within platemark.
