Portrait of Arnold Toynbee at age 26. Arnold Joseph Toynbee (1889-1975) was an English historian, a philosopher of history, an author of numerous books and a research professor of international history at the London School of Economics and King's College London.
Etching with plate tone, on laid paper with French lily and V[an] G[elder] Z[onen] watermark, sheet size 187 x 286 mm., platemark 140 x 198 mm., by Dirk Harting (also Dirk Herman Michael Harting; 1884-1970). Signed in pencil, monogrammed and dated (1908) in the plate.
In fair condition, browned (from previous framing) overall, a dark stain in the top right margin corner.
