An atlant (or: atlas, telamon) looking to the left and holding up a hand for support. In architecture, an atlant is a support structure shaped like a man (reminiscent of the eponymous Atlas, the Titan bearing the entire sky on his shoulders).
Etching/engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 297 x 433 mm., engraved by Jean Pesne (1623-1700) after Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), and published by Gérard Audran as part of the series 'Herculis Labores', Paris: 1678.
In fair condition, cropped within platemark, paper loss in three of the corners (probably when removing from support; remains of glue and paper on the verso). An old inscription in ink on the verso is faintly visible on the front.
