Double allegorical portrait of James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick (1670-1734) and Maurice, Count of Saxony (1696-1750), on obeslisks to the left and right of a depiction of the battlefield at Fontenoy (1745). Insets in the lower left and right show two more battlefields (Almanza and Aufeld). A French descriptive text on the two figures below the image.
Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 300 x 412 mm., platemark 227 x 335 mm., engraved by Nicolas Ponce (1746-1831) after Clément-Pierre Marillier (1740-1808), and published in 'Les illustres français, ou tableaux historiques des grands hommes de la France' (1790-1816).
In very good condition, margins a little soiled.
