Beschrijving
Johannes Arnoldus Boland (1838-1922) was a Dutch graphic artist and draughtsman, who was assisstant of the Rijksprentenkabinet of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam from 1886 to 1917. This print was made to commemmorate his departure from the Rijksprentenkabinet at age 78.
Lithograph on chine-collé, sheet size 347 x 469 mm., image size 296 x 338 mm. Proof before lettering by Georg Rueter (1875-1966). The design for the caption and dating of the print are added in pencil. The portrait itself seems fully finished at this point. The final caption will be: 'J.A. Boland bij zijn vertrek van 's Rijks Prentenkabinet aangeboden door Ambtenaren en Commissie van Toezicht van 's Rijks Museum'.
In good condition, some scattered foxing and a faint crease in the top edge of the sheet.
