Etching and drypoint with plate tone, on modern laid paper (with French lily watermark with monogram VGZ, Van Gelder Zonen). Sheet size 401 x 580 mm., platemark 229 x 284 mm.
A beautiful portrait by Jan Veth (1864-1925) of the aged fisherman Jan Schaap. This is one of the few etched portrait Veth made, although he did paint a good many portraits. Dated 1892 in the plate, although this print was initially offered as part of the 1891 installment of the annual portfolio of the Nederlandsche Etsclub, 'Portefeuille der Nederlandsche Etsclub'. This portfolio would contain around 12 prints.
In very good condition, sheet with very large margins, a few small stains in the top and bottom margins, a small nick in the left margin (all well outside the image area).
