Beschrijving
Amsterdam, By d'Erve H. van der Putte en B. Boekhout, [1604], 4to., beautiful later half leather spine with marbled paper with title on spine, [120 pp.], without pagenumbers but the book consists of 15 signatures with each 8 pages, the book has been rebound with skill and eye for detail, the first and last few pages of the original work are a bit fragile around the edges and show damaged corners. In the front of the book these corners have been carefully restored. The last page of signature O has a small hole in the page, the titelpage is somewhat smudged, the pages show some light foxing and there are some waterstains, but the construction of the book is in very good condition and the rebinding was done beautifully. With a woodcut illustration on the titlepage depicting a city scene. The text is presented in two columns, (mostly) in a Gothic font.
There is a stamp in the titlepage. Presumably an ex libris stamp, but the name is difficult to read.
It is a rare later edition of this classical folktale, that was first published in 1516 and has been reprinted many times after. Later editions are represented in STCN and available in several libraries, but not this early edition from 1604.
