Beschrijving
Amsterdam, Johannes van Ravesteyn, 1658 (colophon: Leyden, gedruckt by Daniel Willemssz. vander Boxe in compagnie met de Weduwe van Zal: Wilhem Christiaans vander Boxe. Anno 1658), 8vo., full parchment spitselbinding with handwritten title on spine, [46]+491+[19]pp., smudged parchment, on the inside of the binding the boards, hinges and sewing strips are exposed because some of the endpapers are lost (front) or damaged (back), the bookblock is still solid – and apart from some stains – with clear printwork. With a woodcut printer's mark on the titlepage (Exspectando) and some decorative head- and tailpieces and initials. There are some lovely marks left by previous owners. On the first two blank pages (before the titlepage) there are some handwritten notes – some crossed out. The first note stille reads ‘Willem’ in pencil, but the other words (names?) have been crossed out. The second note is still legible (although the first few lines have been crossed out). It lists the births and deaths of children in the Faake family:
‘Johan Eberhart Herman Faake, geboren den 27 Maart 1864, gestorven den 12 September 1866
Marije Faake, geboren de 15 Julij 1865, gestorven den 7 Februarij 1867
Johan Eberhart Herman Faake, geboren 7 September 18..
Johanna Marije Faake, geboren den 14 Maart 1869′
These pages also show some childlike scribbling in pencil.
The blank pages in the back also have some handwitten notes (upside down). One in ink, only partly legible because the page has been torn. The name and date are unfortunately incomplete:
‘dit boek hoi[irt]
Aeryaentie (i.e. Adriana) (…)
redelijke (…)
1716 de 29(ste) (…)’
The next page also reads the name Faake, but the notes have been crossed out, so they are barely legible.
