Cork model of the Nabatean sacrificial altar at Petra, 19th century with later additions, 35,5 x 31,5 x 13,5 cm. Provenance: Bijbels Museum Amsterdam. Good example of a late 19th century cork model as they were sold to visiting tourists and scholars. Bijbels Museum Amsterdam was centred around the collection of rev. Schouten, who collected models of sacred places (Temple Mount). See for the history of this collection the excellent dissertation of Dr. H. Pool, Soli Deo Gloria (2021). Scarce.
