Jacobus Bontius was a Dutch physician and a pioneer of tropical medicine. He is known for the four-volume work De medicina Indorum. His 1631 work ‘Historiae naturalis et medicae Indiae orientalis’ introduced the word ‘Orang Hutan’ into Western languages.
Paul Bloys van Treslong Prins (1873-1940) was a famous genealogist. He was archivist of the Dutch East Indies, but Prins was fired in 1931. In his position he had cut 600 wax seals from archive documents and added them to his own collection. He gained great fame with his heraldic descriptions of tombstones and gravestones of many churches in the NetherlandsHe also published on European families in the Dutch East Indies, The data he collected on about half a million index cards about European residents in the Indies and VOC servants and civil servants is now an important part of the collection of East Indian sources of the Central Bureau for Genealogy as 'Bloys van Treslong Prins' collection.
