Amsterdam, no publisher, 1857, 24 pages, original paper binding, ‘speech’ held by S.P. Lipman when he left the Amsterdam bar and became member of the Hoge Raad. Samuel Philippus Lipman (1802-1871) was born in London. He moved with his parents in 1807 to Glückstadt in Holstein. He became a student at Leiden University at the age of 17. He became a succesful (Jewish) lawyer in Amsterdam. He served as the deken of the Orde der advocaten. In 1852 he became catholic. From 1857 to 1862 he was a member of the Hoge Raad in Den Haag. He published a lot. His translation of the Nieuwe testament was completed by H.J.A.M. Schaepman. He wrote books on law, religion and politics.Judaica.
