Nine of twelve portraits of actors in stage costumes, etched by Johannes Jelgerhuis; hand colored with inscriptions concerning the actor and the character being performed. Very interesting insight on Dutch costume design of the early nineteenth century. 1) Elmance in de Lichtzinnige… Actress Ms. Kamphuyzen as Diana, with arrow and bow and a moon crescent above her head [van Someren, 2863]. 2) Rhamnes in Zelmiere… Johannes Jelgerhuis playing Rhamnes, dressed as a Roman soldier with helmet and sward [van Someren, 2796]. 3) Josabeth in Athalia…, Ms Sardet playing Josabeth, dressed like a Greek priestess, a veil and a laurel crown on her head [van Someren, 4796]. 4) Mekéli in Armand en Constance… Theo Majofski playing Mekéli, dressed as a farmer, dragging a barrel on a cart [van Someren, 3429]. 5) Hulda, in het Vrouwtje van den Donau… Ms De Bruin playing Hulda, standing on a shell on the water, dragged by two swans [van Someren, 859**]. 6) Fedra vervuld door Mev….
