Holy Roman Empire, Vienna, d.d. 10 February 1764. Full red velvet, with yellow ribbons. Slightly discoloured at the edges. 35×15 cm. 16 pages on vellum, handwritten, calligraphy, printed decorative margins. With hand painted coat-of-arms in colour and the signature of Franz I. No seal present. This patent of nobility was presented by Roman Emperor Franz I shortly before the election of his son Leopold as his successor in March 1764. It was presented to Johann Franz Zach von Hartenstein, who came from a family that distinguished itself as postmasters in the service of the Holy Roman emperors. The charter states that he deserved nobility as result of the loyal service by his family, including his father who served the emperor in Tuscany and Frankfurt. The painted coat-of-arms embellishes several turrets and is depicted in a fantastical landscape. H188
