Beschrijving
Amsterdam, Rudolf en Gerard Westein, 1721-1728, folio, half leather and marbled paper bindings with ribbed spine and title plates, sprinkled edges. Lovely decorative woodcut initials and endpieces. The bindings are worn along the edges and the title plates on the spine are damaged or misisng.
Volume 1: part 1 and 2: [38]+668+367 pp., engraved titlepage (J. Wandelaar), engraved printer's mark on titlepage, engraved headpiece accompanying the dedication to Prince Wilhelm Karel Henrik Friso, engraved portrait of the author (P.v. Gunst), 2 fold out map, 23 engravings on the text pages. There is a tear in page 529 of part 1 and a torn corner on page 367 of part 2.
Volume 2: part 3, 4 and 5: 232+128+114+252+1-318+[2] pp., 1 fold out map and 21 engravings on the text pages. Some waterstains visible in the top margins, some damage to the titlepage of part 3 where the bottom half is coming loose along the spine.
Volume 3: part 5 and 6: [16]+321-432+884 pp., engraved portrait of Isaak Verburg (P. van Gunst), 1 fold out map and 14 engravings on the text pages. Titlepage and the dedication page to Anthonis Slicher are loose, and there are some small stains and a few wrinkled pages in the second half of the book, including the fold out map.
Volume 4: part 7 and 8: [10]+972 pp., with 18 engravings on the text pages, the leather of the spine is damaged at the head of the book. With an ex libris stamp (J.N. van der Blonk, Enkhuizen).
Volume 5: part 9 and 10: [10]+525+[2]+493+[166] pp.
