Martin Engelbrecht (Augsburg 1684-1765) was a German engraver and publisher, and a student of Jeremias Wolff. Engelbrecht was one of the most prolific engravers and printsellers in Augsburg at the time. Along with his brother Christian, the Engelbrechts dominated the print trade, producing among the finest prints of his day. His portraits and landscape studies are outstanding and his religious and allegorical engravings display a high degree of technical aptitude. Martin also had a lot of success with his optical prints, used in perspective boxes. He is, however, best remembered for his equestrian portraits depicting European nobility.
