Portrait of Michael Neander, walking to the right with a keyring in one hand, holding a book in the other. Michael Neander (originally Neumann) (Joachimsthal 1529-1581 Jena) was a German teacher, mathematician, medical academic, and astronomer. He was educated at the University of Wittenberg, receiving his B.A. in 1549 and M.A. in 1550.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 225 x 156 mm. By an anonymous engraver, made after 1595, but given the style early 17th century.
In fair condition, with a faint dampstain in the left and top edges of the iamge area. Remains of attachment to carrier to the top edge on the verso.
