Half-length portrait of Dominicus Arumaeus standing by a table, with an open book and envelope on it, he has one hand on his saber and holds gloves in the other. Dominicus Arumaeus (Leeuwarden 1579-1637 Jena), born Douwe van Arum in Friesland, studied law in Franeker (as early as 1593), Oxford, Rostock and finally Jena. He remained there as a professor, rector and councillor at Weimar.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 194 x 138 mm., platemark 144 x 97 mm. Engraved by Johann Dürr, with a laudatory poem bt Philipp Horst beneath the image. Text in letterpress on the verso.
Johann Dürr (Augsburg c. 1600 – 1663 Weimar) was a German engraver who worked in Thuringia in the second third of the 17th century. He also worked in Leipzig and at the Dresden court. There are 210 known engravings by him, including many portraits and occasional landscape prints.
In good condition, a small dampstain in the far right edge of the image. Sheet browned overall. A small stain in the right margin, a crease in the left margin.
