Bust-length portrait of Placidus Fixlmillner, turned to the right and looking forward. Placidus Fixlmillner (1721 – 1791) was a Benedictine monk and priest, and one of the first astronomers to compute the orbit of Uranus.
Stipple engraving on laid paper with IGR watermark, sheet size 274 x 224 mm., platemark 131 x 82 mm. Engraved by Konrad Westermayr in Dessau, c. 1800-1830.
Konrad Westermayr (Hanau 1765-1834) was a German painter and engraver. He was the son of Jacob Daniel Westermayr, a goldsmith, and taught this trade by his father. He also attended the local art academy, and started drawing portraits for economic reasons. In 1788 he enrolled in the Academy of Kassel and started painting.
In good condition, the right edge of the sheet toned and with small nicks and creases. A small hole (caused by rust) in the lower right margin corner.
