Oval portrait of Nevil Maskelyne (1732-1811), the fifth British Astronomer Royal. He held the office from 1765 to 1811, and was the first person to scientifically measure the mass of Earth.
Stipple and line engraving on wove paper, sheet size 307 x 237 mm., platemark 140 x 89 mm. Engraved by Konrad Westermayr, c. 1775-1834.
Konrad Westermayr (Hanau 1765-1834) was a German engraver, painter, art teacher and academy director.
In good condition, faint foxing in the margins and edges of the image area.
