Beschrijving
A river lined with willow trees in the middle of the scene, two farmhouses to the left.
Printdrawing on laid paper, sheet size 257 x 133 mm. Made by Christiaan Josi after Adriaen Hendriksz. Verboom, published in 1821. Printdrawing is a reproductive technique combining etching in the crayon manner and roulette, with other techniques, to approach the free line of pencil drawing.
Christiaan Josi (Utrecht 1768-1828 Ramsgate) was a Dutch draughtsperson and printmaker, related to Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (who is credited with inventing the printdrawing technique). Adriaen Hendriksz. Verboom (Rotterdam 1627/28-1673) was a Dutch painter and draughtsperson. He was active in Haarlem and Amsterdam, but returned to Rotterdam at the end of his life.
In very good condition, cropped to the image edge. With the coat of arms of Ploos van Amstel (publisher of the series; Lugt 2725) on the verso. These so-called 'bijprenten' (supplemental prints) were printed in an edition of 100 copies, so are quite scarce.
